Scholarly Achievements

Dr. Carl R. Cramer, Professor of Athletic Training, School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences, attended the annual symposium of the Southeast Athletic Trainer’s Association in Franklin, TN on February 28-March 2, 2008; was appointed and served on the medical team for The 2008 Pan American Judo Beijing Olympic Qualifying Event in Miami, FL on May 8-11, 2008; attended the annual symposium of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association in St. Louis, MO on San Antonio, Texas, June 17-20, 2009.

Dr. Darlene A. Kluka, Professor of Sport Management, School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences, received a second doctorate in sport management from the University of Pretoria, South Africa (D Phil – September, 2008), dissertation entitled “The Brighton Declaration on Women and Sport: A Management Audit of Process Quality”; edited a feature “Women, sport and social change in the September” in the 2008 International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education ICSSPE Bulletin, wrote two chapters “Women and Sport” and “Motor Behavior” in the 5th Edition of the Directory of Sport Science (2008),; coauthored and copresented with A.E. Goslin their “Management Styles of Women in Sport Executive Decision-Making Positions: A comparative investigation” at the 1st International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS) in Guangzhou, China August 3-5, 2008; coauthored and copresented with A.E. Goslin and B.M. Steyn their paper “Evidence and influence: Making a difference for women in sport and physical education” at the 1st International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport (ICSEMIS) in Guangzhou, China August 3-5, 2008; coauthored and copresented with A.E. Goslin and S. Burger their paper “Public recreation provision in South Africa: A comparison of two political ideologies” at the 16th biennial International Society of Comparative Physical Education and Sport (ISCPES), Macau, China July 26, 2008; presented her paper “Intercultural Competence Through Sport Leadership” at the 16th biennial International Society of Comparative Physical Education and Sport (ISCPES), Macau, China, July 26, 2008; presented her paper “Appropriate Management Practices for Excellence in the Sport and Recreation Industry” at the  23rd  Annual North American Society for Sport Management in Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 28- 31, 2008; was appointed and served a four-year presidency of the International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW) (2005 – 2009); was appointed and served Chair of the Editorial Board of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) (2004 – 2008); was appointed and served the editor for the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal, published by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS).
