A pair of Barry University alumnae has recently been cited among the top athletic trainers in the state of Florida by the Athletic Trainers Association of Florida (ATAF). Mary Medina, ’92, and Jennifer Plant, ’97, each earned prestigious awards at the ATAF Annual Meeting in Kissimmee, Fla. in July. Medina was named the ATAF High School Athletic Trainer of the Year while Plant took home the ATAF Trainer of the Year award in the college/university category.

Each year, the ATAF grants 10 awards to its member including four “athletic trainer of the year” awards. The High School Athletic Trainer of the Year and College/University Trainer of the Year awards are given each year to athletic trainers who have displayed throughout that year a high level of professionalism and whose actions has improved the profession and The Athletic Trainers’ Association of Florida.

Medina and Plant both received their B.S. in athletic training at Barry. Medina is presently the Head Athletic Trainer at South Miami High School and Plant is the Clinical Coordinator for the Athletic Training Education Program at UCF.
