Lyons Appointed to NCAA DII Management Council

INDIANAPOLIS -- Barry University senior woman administrator Bridget Lyons is juggling her time these days between Miami Shores and Indiana.

Lyons, a senior associate athletic director at Barry, was appointed to the NCAA Division II Management Council this year. She is Barry's third representative from the Sunshine State Conference to serve in Indianapolis. She will sit in the capacity until January 2020.

The NCAA Division II Managment Council is responsible for recommending administrative policy and regulations that govern the division. The Council reviews and acts on recommendations from the Division II committee structure and from Division II representatives to committees with association-wide functions. The Council is also responsible for appointing Division II representatives to those committees.

"It is a privilege to be the Sunshine State Conference representative on the Division II Management Council and have the opportunity to help shape the policy that governs Division II," Lyons said. "I am proud to continue the history of Barry University athletic administrators who have been on this committee."

The Management Council consists of 29 members, including one administrator or representative from each of the Division II multisport voting conferences, one administrator or representative of Division II independent institutions -- provided there are at least six Division II independent institutions -- two representatives from the Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and two at-large positions to help achieve diversity of representation.

The Council roster must include at least four athletic directors, four SWAs, four faculty athletics representatives, two SAAC representatives and at least one conference administrator.

Lyons has been appointed to the Division II Planning and Finance Committee and serve as the council's liaison to the National Association for Athletics Compliance.

"I am inspired by the outstanding group of individuals who comprise this committee," Lyons said, "and the leadership and support from the NCAA staff is outstanding."
