The Department of Campus Recreation & Wellness

The Department of Campus Recreation & Wellness at Barry is based on the philosophy of wholesome recreation and the right to play. By providing students, faculty, and staff with a well-rounded program, a safe environment, and a chance to challenge themselves, there is "something for everyone."  Recreation at Barry encourages all constituents to become involved in an activity of their choice.  Recreation serves as an opportunity to meet new people and develop a lifestyle of fun and fitness.

Barry University has been a member of the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) since 1995.

NIRSA is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to the establishment and development of quality intramural/recreational sports and fitness programs. Founded in 1950, the organization's membership has evolved to form a network of highly-trained professionals in the recreational sports field throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries around the world. NIRSA now serves as the leading advocate for excellence in recreational sports programming and services. The organization's rapidly growing membership is comprised of more than 2,500 professional members. The major professional responsibilities of the NIRSA membership include the administration of intramural sports, fitness programming, recreational facility operations, fiscal and personnel management, sports clubs, outdoor recreation, and wellness programs.
