Admission Requirements

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FULL ADMISSION

  • A completed application.
  • Master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Graduate grade point average of at least 3.25 (A=4.0)
  • Acceptable Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores in all three areas: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical; scores must be from a test date within five years preceding application.
  • Three recent letters of professional recommendation for doctoral study.
  • An interview with two faculty members in the program.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Due to the revised GRE General Test which will begin to be offered in August 2011, an applicant intending to enroll in our doctoral program in January 2012, for which the application deadline is Oct. 1, 2011, must take the GRE by August 1, 2011, in order for Barry University to receive the test score by the application deadline.

Here is the fall schedule of score reporting for the GRE revised General Test :

  • For test takers who take the GRE revised General Test in August and September 2011, score reports will be sent starting in early-November 2011
  • For test takers who take the GRE revised General Test in October and November, there will also be a special score reporting schedule (not yet announced).
  • In December, score reporting will return to the regular reporting period of 10-15 days after test day.

ADMISSION TO CLASS

Applicants may be permitted to take two doctoral courses (6 credits) on the basis of signed application and proof of a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, with the approval of the specialization coordinator.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

All application materials (including test scores, transcripts and letters of recommendation) are due to the Admissions Office by the following dates for priority consideration:

June 1 for Fall admission.

October 1 for Spring admission.

February 1 for Summer admission.
