Self-Guided Campus Tour

Welcome to Barry Law! We hope you enjoy your visit to our beautiful campus. If you have any questions, please check with admissions or the receptionist so we can assist you. Thanks for stopping by!

The Barry Law campus is located on the east side of Orlando, approximately 10 to 15 minutes east of downtown Orlando and 10 minutes from University of Central Florida. The campus is more than 20 acres and houses four main law school buildings.

ADMINISTRATION BUILDING

This building holds the Deans’ suite and other administrative personnel offices including offices of the Dean, Academic Dean, Dean of Students, Chief Financial Officer, Assistant Dean for Institutional Advancement, Assistant Dean for Admissions, and Admissions Office.

The Moot Courtroom is located on the backside of the building and serves as the perfect venue for special events, classroom space, mock trial and moot court competitions. Restrooms are located nearby as well as some very comfy couches for the students.

DWAYNE O. ANDREAS LAW CENTER

On the first and second floors you will find the majority of Barry Law’s classrooms in this recently renovated building (renovated to add more classroom space). Of interest are two “smart classrooms” with all the tech savvy advantages. Electrical outlets are available for students with laptops in the classrooms as is wireless internet in the larger rooms.

The Career Services Suite is located on the first floor and presents the Director’s office, her assistant, and the resource room for the students. Stop by and feel free to ask any questions or schedule an appointment if she is not available at the time of your visit.

The Financial Aid and Registrar’s offices are located to the left of the receptionist. If you would like to speak with a financial aid counselor, just stop by and ask the receptionist if someone is available or make an appointment. Be sure to ask about the merit-based scholarships available to admitted applicants. Note the very reasonable law school GPA required to maintain the scholarship for the entire law school career. Scholarships are also offered to first year students ranked in the top 10 percent. (Admissions or the Dean of Students can also answer scholarship questions.)

Enjoy a snack at the new café open to serve both full-time day students and part-time evening students (during the dinner hour). Restrooms are located near the seating area as well as directly upstairs.

LIBRARY

The law library contains an impressive collection of materials covering three floors and is open to the public as well as the students. Library hours are based on student schedules with extended hours during exams and other important events. (For students who stay late, Barry Law has a security guard on duty while the library is open.)

As you enter the first floor, notice the reference librarian available to students approximately 70 hours per week. To the left in the back are the computers available to students. (Laptops are not required at Barry Law.) Students are assigned a school email address, username, and password to log onto the Barry intranet. Westlaw and Lexis passwords are also provided to students in the Legal Research and Writing Class. Most of the first year research materials are located on the first floor for easy access. You will probably notice this first floor, while quiet, does allow talking at a reasonable volume.

The second and third floors contain even more materials and a plethora of quiet study space via large tables and kiosks for privacy. Notice the electrical outlets and wireless connections available in the library.

If you would like more information about the library, please ask the reference librarian for a tour.

GRADUATE STUDIES

This building holds the majority of faculty offices and some small classrooms as well. Generally, first year class size is around 60 to 80 students, with the exception of Legal Research and Writing with about 15 to 20 students per class. During the second and third years of study at Barry Law, class size generally decreases dramatically as students are free to choose electives. (The Registrar always designs the schedule for students during the first year. Students choose their classes in the second and third years.)

MODULAR UNITS

The two very temporary modular units contain the law clinic (housing the Children First! Project making legal services available to underprivileged children). Students may participate in the clinic for credit (after completing required courses) and fantastic “practice” experience representing actual clients under the supervision of a staff attorney. Externships should also be taken advantage of in the local State Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office as well as in the areas of Mediation, Judicial, Civil Poverty, and Civil Government. These opportunities for practical legal experience speak volumes on a resume and allow students to gain confidence and valuable skills.

The other modular unit contains the Barry Law Bookstore where students may obtain all required books. Expansion plans for the bookstore are currently under discussion. As the student body grows, so do the services available to Barry Law students. This modular unit also houses offices for some student organizations including the Student Bar Association, Moot Court Board, and Law Review.

Again, we thank you for visiting Barry University School of Law. If we can assist you in any way, please let us know. For more information, check our website at www.barry.edu/law. Have a great day!
