Nov 08, 2007
The Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law trial team continues its success at national trial competitions by finishing in the top four at the 8th Annual Michigan State University National Trial Advocacy Competition held Oct. 25-27 in East Lansing, Mich.
The Barry trial team, consisting of Denise Kim, Latorea Dancy, John Beamer and Andrew Joy, made it to the final four out of 26 national law school trial teams that competed in this prestigious competition. The team was coached by Maria Hale and Susan Payne, practicing attorneys in Central Florida. Barry swept through the first three rounds of the competition by defeating South Texas, California Western and Brooklyn School of Law, thus securing its spot in the final four. The team was eventually defeated by Southern Methodist University, which went on to win the competition.
Barry’s strong performance at the MSU competition adds to the Law School’s success at national competitions. In March, Barry’s trial team finished among the Elite Eight out of more than 220 teams at the AAJ National Trial Advocacy Competition, the largest trial competition in America. In 2005 the team finished among the Final Four. Barry's moot court team has also had strong finishes at the National Trademark Law Competition (2005, 2006, and 2007), National Tax Law Competition (2002, 2004, and 2006), National Sports Law Competition (2005, 2006) and the National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition (2004).
