Barry’s Rodrigo Caruco wins Best Oralist award at Orseck Moot Court competition

Jun 29, 2008
Rodrigo Caruco with Barry Law School Dean Leticia Diaz

First year Barry University Law School student Rodrigo Caruco was awarded Best Oralist of the preliminary round at the 2008 Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition June 18 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Caruco and teammate Kelley Lester represented Barry Law School at the competition, which was sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar and held in conjunction with the Florida Bar’s annual convention. All 10 Florida law schools participated. During the competition, teams argued twice in the preliminary round – 20 arguments in all – with Caruco receiving the highest oral advocacy score; he competed against all the advocates, as each member of every team argued at least once in the preliminary round.

The competition featured some of the best law school oral advocacy programs, making Caruco’s award quite the achievement for a Barry Moot Court member. A new member of Barry’s Moot Court Team, Caruco also won the Best Advocate Award in the First Year Moot Court Competition. The Orseck Memorial Competition was his first interschool competition. Caruco and Lester were coached by Barry Law Associate Professor Terri Day.
