Earth Jurisprudence Seminar
Patricia Siemen is a Dominican Sister from Adrian, Michigan and a civil attorney. She currently serves as the Director of the Center for Earth Jurisprudence, a collaborative initiative co-sponsored by Barry and St. Thomas Universities. The mission of the Center for Earth Jurisprudence is to re-envision law and governance in ways that support and protect the well being of the entire Earth community.
Professor Siemen previously coordinated the Healing the Earth Center at the Institute of Pastoral Ministry, St. Thomas University and also served as the director of the Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College, Miami, Florida, from 2001 - 2004. As director she engaged interdisciplinary faculty, students and college administrators in programs and workshops in Earth Literacy throughout the seven campuses of Miami Dade College.
Professor Siemen served on the Adrian Dominican Sisters Congregational leadership team from 1988 - 1998. She is a former staff attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Voting Rights Section, and legal services attorney for migrant farm workers in Immokalee, Florida.
Beginning with the Spring 2007 semester at Barry, Professor Siemen will be teaching a seminar in Earth Jurisprudence alternating years at Barry and St. Thomas's law schools.
