CLEATS is responsible for coordinating all the major transitional programs for incoming first-year and transfer students. These programs assist students with their educational and social acclimation to Barry. The following have been implemented to assist new students and their families during their first year at Barry:

Peer Mentor Program
Peer Mentors are undergraduate students who want to make significant positive contributions to the first-year student population by assisting in making a smooth transition into the Barry University community.
The primary goals of this position are:
- Assist in the creation of a quality and supportive learning environment for new students through personal mentorship, resource identification and program delivery for new students.
- Assess, mentor, and intervene to assist new students in their successful transition into a new academic, social, cultural and spiritual environment.
- Serve as mentors and a resource to first-year students and keep the center informed about any first-year student having transition difficulties.
- Assist with the development and implementation of the Spring and Fall Orientation programs.
- Improve personal self-confidence, communication skills, and leadership abilities. Peer Mentors are some of the best-informed students at Barry as they foster the development of a caring and quality learning environment for first-year students.
Leadership Programs
Our leadership programming works to develop students into leaders both within the University and the broader community. Our goal is to address the needs of all students beginning as early as their first-year at Barry and engage them throughout the duration of their education. Leadership Library
Available to all students in Landon 202 with topics ranging from:
- Leadership theory
- Conducting meetings
- Delegation
- Networking
- Publicity
- Diversity
- Ethics
- Team-building
Anyone with a Barry ID may review materials in the library or check them out for 48 hours.
Leadership Speaker Series
The speaker series is designed to bring in special guests who can address various issues as they relate to the various concepts of leadership. Each program in the series will address seminar topics ranging from women in leadership to the role of spirituality in leadership.
Leadership Recognition and Awards
Each year, the Division of Student Affairs recognizes student leaders for their positive contributions to campus life by hosting an annual leadership banquet. The program is designed to recognize outstanding individuals, student organizations, and advisers for their leadership. The banquet is held in April and nominations are made available in the early spring. |
