Computers in the Library
Research
Workstations: The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library maintains 30 workstations in the Reference Computer Area located on the second floor of the library. These computers are for the use of currently registered students, faculty and staff. These workstations are provided for library-related research and do not contain productivity software such as Microsoft Office. From these workstations, our users have access to all of the library's electronic resources such as our web-based catalog, indexes, databases and e-journals, as well as the World Wide Web. These computers allow downloading document files and printing to color as well as black and white laser printers and access to the University's email services. 22 workstations in the library’s computer lab have access library’s electronic resources as well as Microsoft Office Suite. One workstation in the reference area is ADA compliant and is linked to a scanner.
Bibliographic
Instruction and Library Computer Lab: Reference librarians provide bibliographic instruction classes for students on an on-going basis and when requested by individual academic departments and faculty members. Bibliographic instruction is offered in the library’s Computer Lab located in Room 205. This lab is equipped with an instructor's workstation, a projector system and 22 workstations. Microsoft Office2007 Suite (Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint) and a host of other software applications are provided. Please note that the Bibliographic Instruction Lab computers will be available to currently registered students, faculty and staff when not in use for Bibliographic Instruction.
Computers for Users
with Disabilities:
The Library has many wheelchair accessible workstations. A workstation specially
designed for use by persons with disabilities is also available in the Reference
Computer Area. This workstation is equipped with a large print keyboard, trackball,
20-inch display and a scanner. This computer provides screen reader utilities
such as Zoom Text Xtra and Jaws for Windows as well as OpenBook software which
converts printed page into electronic text. This text can be saved in a text
file and/or read aloud through the preinstalled computer's voice synthesizer.
Printing and Copying:
The Library houses 6 networked printer/copier systems, one of which offers color printing/copying. There is also a printer only machine in the library computer lab and a copier only machine on the third floor. All university personnel and active students are provided a BarryNet network and email account and a BucCard with a unique identification number. Any student with a BarryNet network account is eligible to activate their account for printing and copying. Once the account has been activated, students are able to print and the money is automatically deducted from their account. Students may add money to their account at the Circulation Desk. Printing and copying costs are .05 per page for 8.5X11 paper and .10 per page for 11X17 paper. Color copies are $1.00 per page.
Network Access for
Laptops:
Library computer support is available to assist our laptop users in connecting
to the BarryNet Network. The Library provides the following laptop connections:
- Wired Ethernet: Activated
network jacks are available for notebook users on every floor
of the library. Limited quantities of network cables are available
and loaned to patrons at the Circulation desk.
- Wireless:
Access points have been installed to serve as the communications “hub” to
provide wireless network technology in the Library. A limited
number of wireless notebook cards are available to patrons
for loan at the Circulation Desk.
Library Computer Use

available on all of the Library’s
computer workstations.
- Users must use library electronic resources such as databases

search history, and not "hovering" over a computer user while waiting one’s
turn to use a computer.
- The Library does not monitor or control the information
accessed through the Internet, and
cannot be held responsible for its content.
- The Library is not responsible for any damage done to
