The Art of Entertaining at Bloomingdale’s

In April, Barry University Alumni Association partnered with Bloomingdale’s in Aventura for The Art of Entertaining. The wine and cheese reception with renowned artist and home designer Michael Aram gave alumni an opportunity to network while enjoying an evening of design, wine, food and friends.

In honor of the university, Michael Aram presented Vice President of Institutional Advancement Ann Paton with a special Waterford and Michael Aram designed vase.

Michael Aram is an American-born artist who works primarily in metal. After studying fine art and living as an artist in New York in the late 1980’s, Aram took what would later be a life-altering trip to India where he discovered rich metalworking traditions. Inspired to work with craftsmen whose skills he felt were greatly untapped, Aram turned his creative energies towards craft-based design, setting up a home and workshop in New Delhi.

New Student Welcome – Hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations & Institutional Advancement

The Office of Alumni Relations and Institutional Advancement hosted the first ever new student welcome August 22 when more than 500 students moved in to campus. To start things off, the Alumni Association surprised each student with a laundry bag in their rooms, which was sponsored by Future Alumni of Barry (FAB) and Chipotle. The bags were filled with a Chipotle Burrito Buck good for one free burrito, a Chipotle Burrito stress ball, items from the Florida Marlins and information from student activities.

The Office of Alumni Relations also handed out Future Alumni of Barry (FAB) door-hanger brochures, temporary FAB tattoos, Vitamin Energy samples and coupons from Dogma Grill. Lipton Toyota of Fort Lauderdale brought out two cars to display and handed out information on a new program to support alumni scholarships.

The Florida Marlins joined in the fun by providing giveaways, including backpacks and student planners. In addition, they promoted the upcoming Barry Night at the Marlin’s Game which took place on September 12.
