The School of Adult and Continuing Education has rolled out a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) program aimed at creating an online learning experience through an open access philosophy, utilizing videos, readings, problem sets, as well as interactive user forums. The first free course, which attracted students from all over the globe, focused on Disaster Health (as introduced in Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD 21) and ran from October 7 to November 25. The course integrated public health, medical preparedness and disaster behavioral health within one unified framework. It was responder oriented and featured six strategies that can be used to support responders and support survivors in incidents.
