New Alumni Association Member Benefits

The Alumni Association has been working to bring new benefits to our alumni. Each month you’ll receive an email from us with specific benefits from companies like Entertainment Benefits Group (EBG). EBG provides discounts on theme parks, shows and attractions across the country.

You can request discount coupons for hotels and car rental companies from the Alumni Relations office by calling (305) 899-3175 or 1-800-899-ALUM. Additional benefits include American Insurance Administrators Grad Med program, which provides short-term medical insurance for new graduates. Alumni are also eligible to receive a discounted insurance rate from GEICO.

All our benefits can be found at www.barryalumni.com. If you don’t receive our e-mails, contact us at alumni@mail.barry.edu

New Web site Brings Functionality to Alumni

Our new, interactive Alumni Web site is up and running. Launched in March, the site offers a listing of member benefits, travel programs, health insurance, hotel and car rental discounts, and more. The site also gives alumni the opportunity to keep up with what’s going on at Barry with alumni events, stories and class notes.

Even more exciting is the development and implementation of our new Alumni Online Community, which will launch this Spring/Summer. This new community will allow alums to search, contact and keep in touch with other alumni through friend lists and blogs, send e-cards and post photos. Our online career center will allow alumni to search for jobs, post jobs and volunteer to mentor young alumni in their career field.

Visit our new Web site at www.barryalumni.com.

Alumni Association Welcomes New Staff Member

As the Association continues to grow and develop, we welcome Patti O’Brien to our team. Patti comes to us from St. Louis, Missouri, where she attended St. Louis University and majored in communication. While an undergraduate, she was a member of the Student Alumni Association and maintained her involvement on the St. Louis University Young Alumni Association Executive Board.

In her new role at Barry, Patricia will focus on developing a Student Alumni Association and Young Alumni Association program. These programs will include mentoring, student and alumni networking, and alumni events geared toward our younger graduates. To reach Patti, contact her at pobrien@mail.barry.edu.

Golden Shield Society to Develop as a Chapter

Golden Shield members are those who are celebrating 50 years or more as a Barry graduate. For the first time, more than 400 inductees of the Golden Shield Society will begin organizing and meeting on a regular basis as an official Chapter of the Alumni Association.

We are excited to welcome these Barry alumni back to campus and look forward to their involvement in Barry’s future. Some of the upcoming events include monthly breakfasts in the newly renovated Alumni House “Garden Room,” lifelong learning seminars and travel programs.

For more information, contact Renee Glover-Hodge at 1-877-899-ALUM.

The 9 inductees to the Golden Shield Society from the Barry College for Women Class of 1958 are (left to right): Mary Galllagher Hutchison, Barbara Hartley Rietberg, Ana Dominguez Guerrero, Patricia Casey Riehm, Doris Thornhill Moore, Patricia Maguire Laskoskie, Nydia Rossy Cecil,Sue McGee Hiniker and Alba del Toro Hale.

Travel with Barry

The Barry Alumni Association has added travel opportunities to the programs it offers its alumni. Over the next year, you will begin to receive information on trips geared toward your interest, whether it is adventure-based travel, family programs, spiritual getaways or relaxing spa experiences.

Our first trip, a 17-day tour of Europe, will be this May. Specifically designed for our recent graduates, Global Orion will host the program that allows participants to experience the beauty and history of Europe.

Then, join the Barry University Alumni Association as we set sail for our first-ever Alumni Travel Cruise aboard the Carnival Fascination. The cruise, which departs from Miami, will take place August 18 – August 22, and will visit Key West, Florida, and Cozumel, Mexico. The cost for the cruise is $436 for an inside cabin and $486 for an ocean view cabin. Price is based on double occupancy and includes all port charges and taxes.

Hop on aboard with other Barry Alumni and enjoy all the features that the redesigned Carnival Fascination has to offer, including fine-dining, mini golf, Las Vegas-style shows, Casino Royale, night clubs and more. Plus, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy touring the island of Key West and world famous Cozumel. For more information and a complete itinerary, visit www.barry.edu/alumni.

Also, watch for information regarding the Carnival Cruise lines and a Reunion Cruise scheduled for 2009.
