Need to Read

Children from Barry’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs celebrated reading October 25 during the Harvest Festival, an annual event sponsored by Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Lilia DiBello, the Reading Is Fundamental program and the Homestead Housing Authority.

Children ages 1 to 4 received a free book of their choosing and participated in a hands-on activity promoting the importance of reading. Barry partners with the Homestead Housing Authority, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and other agencies to provide this program to low-income residents of Homestead. The program offers a wide array of services such as mental health, educational, and health and disabilities services as well as referrals to other service organizations.
