Steve Stowe ’03
Director, Miami Heat Charitable Fund
School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences
When Steve Stowe was in college he bought a book titled, “Think and Grow Rich.” One of the lessons of the book was to always surround yourself with people you want to learn from and emulate.
Stowe never imagined he would have the opportunity to put that lesson to practice with legendary basketball coach Pat Riley. Yet for the past nine years as executive director of the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund Stowe has worked side by side with Riley.
“Being around someone like him, I couldn’t ask for anything more, for a classier or better teacher. It’s more than I could have ever expected.”
Entering his ninth full season with the Miami Heat, Stowe oversees the team’s fundraising arm, while working alongside players to support their philanthropic endeavors, including the Corporate Education Community Outreach Ticket Program and the military appreciation initiative, Home Strong.
Stowe has helped to raise more than $12 million for the Charitable Fund through special events such as the annual Miami Heat Family Festival.
Stowe previously served as the Heat’s director of community affairs, where he and his staff focused on social responsibility issues and the league’s internationally recognized youth programs. Before joining the Heat, Stowe was a securities trader in the NASDAQ market.
As a native of Miami Beach, Stowe said his main goal is to give back to the city he loves so much.
“My passion has always been to help my community and this has put me in a position to do it formally.”
Stowe is a board member for the American Red Cross Greater Miami & The Keys, the Dade Schools Athletic Foundation and other community organizations. In addition, he has worked with the event steering committee of Alonzo Mourning’s Zo’s Summer Groove and the Univision/Premios Juventud scholarship selection panel.
Stowe holds a dual master’s degree in sports management and business administration from Barry University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Florida.
