A season to remember

For the first time in school history, the men and women’s basketball teams both had 20-win seasons, and made the NCAA tournament.

After a year off, men’s head coach Cesar Odio took his men to the Sunshine State Conference finals and No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament. The men got their first NCAA tournament win in school history, defeating Florida Southern 64-59 in their first-round matchup. Bill Sullivan, in his fourth year as head coach, also took the women’s team to the SSC finals and to the NCAA tournament where they received a No. 5 seed.

The women were led all season by senior Mariesa Greene, who racked up serious numbers as well as awards in her final season. Greene was named SSC Player of the Year, first-team All-South Region and SSC, and was named a finalist to the State Farm Coaches’ All-American team.

Tony Dennison was the man this year for the Bucs, turning it on late in the season when it came tournament time. Dennison this year was named to the second-team All-SSC and All-South Region squads, as well as being named to the All-South Region Tournament Team after putting up huge numbers in the NCAA tournament.

For their accomplishments this year, both teams were featured numerous times in local media outlets, including the Miami Herald, the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel and WTVJ NBC Miami.
