Federal Requirements

Effective July 1, 2020, new US Department of Education regulations, 34 CFR 668.43 (a) (5) (v) and 34 CFR 668.43 (c) require disclosures by institutions regarding educational requirements for programs leading to professional licensure or certification, regardless of modality. 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v) requires an institution to disclose whether programs leading to professional licensure or certification meet each state's educational requirements. At Barry University, this direct notification (typically by email or letter) occurs prior to the students' enrollment in the program for prospective students and for current students upon receipt of information from the student that his or her location has changed to another State.

Barry University offers a variety of academic programs that academically prepare graduates to sit for professional licensure or certification in the State of Florida. Since requirements may vary from state to state, the information below may help you determine if the Barry program meets the licensure or certification requirements in your state.

Professional Licensure or Certification College of Arts & Sciences

  • The Department of Psychology offers the Master of Science (M.S.) Degree in Clinical Psychology. The M.S. in Clinical Psychology Program at Barry University is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) for the period of September, 2023 through September, 2031. MPCAC - Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (mpcacaccreditation.org). The program meets the educational requirements for licensure as a mental health counselor in the State of Florida.
  • The Department has determined that:

Professional Licensure or Certification School of Law

The Juris Doctor program at Barry University School of Law is accredited by the American Bar Association. Pursuant to 34 CFR 668.43(a)(5)(v) this is notification that the program of legal study leading to a Juris Doctor degree at Barry University School of Law meets the educational requirements to apply for admission to every state's bar as well as the District of Columbia. However, some states may have some additional requirements to be eligible for admission.   • The Juris Doctor program holds accreditation from the American Bar Association
  • The degree meets the professional licensure requirement in the state of Florida.

Professional Licensure or Certification School of Podiatric Medicine

  • The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) program is accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME).
  • The DPM program meets educational degree requirements to apply for a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine license in Florida and every other state. Applicants must also complete approved post-graduate medical training to qualify for licensure.

Professional Licensure or Certification School of Social Work

  • The Master of Social Work (MSW) is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
