Why Marine Biology at Barry?

Surrounded by optimal habitats for the study of marine life, Barry University, in South Florida, offers you a rich variety for exploration, including the:

  • Warm Gulf Stream of the Atlantic Ocean,
  • Tidal flats and mangrove forests of Biscayne Bay,
  • Coral reefs of the Florida Keys, and
  • Freshwater and estuarine wetlands of the Florida Everglades

If these environments sound ideal for study , start your  Marine Biology admission application now.  You can also request  more information online or visit our beautiful South Florida campus.

In addition to the advantages of our location, Barry has recently been selected for a partnership with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). If you are eligible, this program could significantly enhance your study. Current student summer internships include study of bottle-nose dolphins at Mote Marine Lab near Sarasota, and botanical classification of beach dune vegetation in the Bear Cut Preserve on Key Biscayne. Barry’s School of Natural and Health Science (SNHS) also has a partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency for summer internships in ecology.

There’s a marine biology and ecology interest group within the School that organizes field trips and relevant community activities. Barry-SNHS has also developed a local chapter for MARS (South Florida Marine Animal Rescue Society), and to date, 15 faculty, staff and students have been trained and certified by MARS for animal rescues.
