The Importance of Mathematics, Computers, and Technology

According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in professional, scientific, and technical services will grow by 28.4 percent while employment in computer systems design and related services will grow by 39.5 percent by 2014. Employment growth will be driven by the increasing reliance of businesses on information technology and the continuing importance of maintaining system and network security. Advancements in technology usually lead to expanding applications of mathematics, and more workers with knowledge of mathematics will be required in the future.

Information Technology (IT) is pervasive in every industry from manufacturing and gaming to aerospace and fast foods. They all rely on databases, navigational devices, knowledge management systems, robotics, telecommunications- and multimedia –systems, just to name a few. The demand for employees with Computer Science (CS) and Computer Information Science (CIS) degrees will continue to grow for the foreseeable future.
