Business students attend annual Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s chapter meeting

This semester, students and faculty from the Andreas School of Business attended the annual Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s chapter meeting.

Controller Judy Penate, Business School Dean Tomislav Mandakovic, Professor Michael Broihahn and five Barry University business students listened as the presentations included information on fraud. For one student attending, the information provided was relevant as Florida is known to be the epicenter of fraudulent activities.

“It was really interesting seeing the different ways big name companies were able to get away with fraud for so long without getting detected,” said Kristina Ikon, who is part of Barry’s Student Managed Investment Fund. “Apart from listening to the enlightening presentations, I had a chance to network with CPAs and it was really helpful hearing their stories about how they decided on accounting.”

The Florida Institute of CPAs is dedicated to advance the accounting profession in Florida, and has been for more than 100 years. Based in Tallahassee, it serve as the premier professional organization representing Certified Public Accountants in the state.

The other students participating at this year’s meeting were Jean Alcide, Derek Geibel, Tyler Krusch, and Luis Quintero.
