Gene Regulation in Drosophila melanogaster
Dr. Gerhild Packert, Assistant Professor of Biology

Dr. Gerhild Packert
Mark Belcher

Dr. Packert’s research studies the different levels of control involved in regulation of gene transcription. Her model involves the interaction between the polycomb group genes and the homeotic genes of the bithorax-complex in Drosophila. Specifically she is investigating how polycomb-group genes maintain differential repression of homeotic genes in embryogenesis and development. She is also investigating the polycomb gene in zebrafish in collaboration with Dr. Peter Lin and Dr. Teresa Petrino.

Dr. Packert’s Laboratory consists of a research associate, Mark Belcher, one student technician and one MARC student.
