About the RISE Program

Biology and chemistry majors with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out biomedical hands-on research enter this two or three year program as sophomores or juniors. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are encouraged to apply. The program consists of:

Research Beginnings Summer Workshop

Off-Campus Summer Research Internship

On-Campus Research

Presentations at Biomedical Seminar Series

Attendance and Presentations at Scientific Meetings

Tutorial Workshops

Graduate School Preparation including GRE and Graduate School workshops

At this time the program provides 12 hours/week for on-campus research during the 15 weeks fall and spring semesters; up to 40hours/week for on-campus research for two weeks during the winter break; a $1,500 annual allowance for research supplies, and travel allowance for students to attend and present their research at scientific meetings. Students are compensated at $10.00/hour for the student development activities.
