Certification Information

This course prepares you for two certifications in the field of medical billing and coding.

1. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) issues the following credential:

   • CCA – Certified Coding Associate

     The CCA should be viewed as the starting point for an individual entering a career as a coder

     (CCS – Certified Coding Specialist & CCS-P Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based exams demonstrate mastery level skills. The CCA should strive for to advance his or her career)

2. The National Health-career Association (NHA) issues the following credential:

   • CBCS – Certified Billing and Coding Specialist

     The CBCS should be viewed as a starting point for an individual entering a career as a coder

     (The NHA offers additional certifications relative to the medical office environment to enhance your skill-set in areas such as CEHRS – Electronic Health Records Specialist , CMT – Certified Medical Transcriptionist, and CMAA – Certified medical Administrative Assistant)
