Barry Physician Assistant Program Participates at Education Fair

The Barry University Physician Assistant (PA) program at the St. Petersburg College campus recently participated with Barry’s School of Adult and Continuing Education (ACE), Human Performance and Leisure Sciences, and Education at an education fair, hosted by St. Petersburg College at their University Partnership Center. The education fair provided prospective students for Barry’s PA program with information on PA admission, pre-requisites, how the interactive video-conferencing works between the Barry campus in Miami Shores and the St. Petersburg campus, and how to successfully apply for admission.

The event featured fifteen booths representing St. Petersburg College and its partners including Barry University, the University of Florida, Embry-Riddle University, and the University of South Florida, among others.

The Barry PA program began its partnership with St. Petersburg College in the fall of 2006 to provide the interactive PA learning program utilizing a highly interactive synchronous teaching methodology made possible by video link originating in Miami Shores. This provides interactive learning between the two campuses and was made possible in part by a grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration.

According to Assistant Dean for Admissions, Barry University Division of Medicine, March Weiner, “This innovative technology has brought a much needed primary care medical degree to an area that has serious primary health care service strategies and high risk populations.”
