Program Description

Underrepresented minority undergraduate and graduate students (African Americans, Hispanics, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Asian or Pacific Islanders), and faculty, experience a 12-week summer biomedical research internship in international research laboratories in Italy, Jamaica, Republic of Korea, and England. The program consists of:

  • Pre-Training Experience at Barry and at the Foreign Site
  • Training at the Foreign Site
  • Post-Training Experience at Barry

The program provides travel, stipend, foreign living expenses, tuition, and research supplies. Trainees share the Minority Programs Resource Room with scholars in the MARC U* STAR Program, MBRS RISE Program, and with student technicians and faculty in the MBRS SCORE Program. The room is equipped with high-end multimedia workstations containing desktop videoconferencing equipment and high speed Internet access. This room is adjacent to the Conference Room equipped with an Intel Team Station videoconferencing system which allows for Internet access and PC applications all in one setting. Trainees use these facilities for real-time interaction with the international research laboratories.
