Dr.
Gayle Workman, Associate Professor, Associate Dean, Department Chair
Dr.
Workman completed her undergraduate work at Bowling Green State
University in Ohio, her master of science degree at Slippery Rock
University in Pennsylvania, and her Ph.D. at Ohio State University
in the area of Sport and Leisure Science. At Barry University she
serves as the associate dean of the School of Human Performance
and Leisure Sciences (HPLS) and the chair of the Department of Sport
and Exercise Sciences (SES). In addition, Dr. Workman is an associate
professor within the Sport Management program at Barry. Prior to
her arrival at Barry, Dr. Workman directed the graduate program
in Outdoor Education at the University of Akron.
Dr. Workman has published and given numerous presentations at state,
national, and international conferences in her area of expertise.
Her research interests include examining the meaning of leisure
throughout the lifespan, particularly in the lives of older adults;
exploring the dynamics of groups and the roles of leadership in
wilderness settings; and investigating the integration of experiential,
outdoor, and physical education within school settings. Her latest
interest involves studying the interwoven phenomena and experience
of ecotourism and the meaning of adventure travel.
