Merit Scholarship for Incoming New Students
The majority of the full-time students accepted into our Miami Shores MSW program qualify for School of Social Work scholarships that range from $7,000 to $9,000 per academic year. In fact, more than 85% of all MSW students receive a merit-based scholarship or tuition discount from the School. Barry University’s School of Social Work has one of the best scholarship programs of any graduate school of social work in the country, with more than $1.7 million in scholarships and tuition discounts awarded over the last three years.
To be eligible to receive a merit scholarship award, you must meet the following requirements:
- have attained a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average during your last 60 college credits,
- be fully accepted to the School of Social Work, and
- enroll full-time in the MSW program.
No specific application is needed for the award. Your scholarship will be renewed for the second year of the program if you maintain satisfactory academic performance; a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
Tuition Discounts
Part-time degree seeking students who are taking classes at the Miami Shores campus may have their tuition reduced by 30% if they meet the eligibility criteria. To be eligible to receive a tuition discount award, you must be working in a “helping profession” a minimum of 24 hours a week. Graduate Assistantships
Graduate assistants are students who are taking classes in our MSW program and working within the Department of Social Work for credit tuition reduction. Graduate assistants assist with daily operations, research, recruiting, field placements and special projects. Graduate assistants generally work 12-14 hours a week in an assigned area. In return, they are credited one three credit class for each semester that they work. In order to become a graduate assistant you must complete the graduate assistant application, submit a letter of interest, a resume and a letter of recommendation from your faculty mentor or a professor at the University. During your assistantship, you are considered a student leader within the School of Social Work. You must maintain a 3.0 GPA, and uphold the core performance standards of the School. Graduate assistant applications are accepted as needed.
Other Scholarship Opportunities
There are other scholarship opportunities that occur within the School of Social Work throughout the year. The scholarship opportunities depend upon the numerous factors that are outside the control of the School. Scholarship opportunities are announced as they become available.
