Profile

Professor Pierce joined the faculty in 1988. Prior to moving to full-time teaching, Professor Pierce served as Coordinator of Field Instruction in West Palm Beach. Professor Pierce received a BA from Morehouse College, an MA from University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. from Barry University. His professional interests include services to oppressed communities, ethnic and powerless groups, and empowerment strategies and techniques. Professor Pierce's publications are in the areas of empowerment practice, policy and practice with special populations, the Black church, and child welfare history in Florida. Professor Pierce teaches courses in social policy and social work practice. He also serves in Palm Beach County as a consultant and volunteer in his areas of interest.
