With more than $120,000 raised towards Barry University scholarships, this year’s Ryder-Benjamin Golf Tournament was the most successful in the history of the 14 year event. More than 150 golfers turned out to the fundraising event, held Friday, April 25 at the Miami Beach Golf Club.

For the first time, golfers also had the opportunity to play with the reigning national champions men’s golf team. As is Barry tradition, members of the Barry University men’s and women’s golf teams get involved each year by allowing the golfers to purchase “mulligans,” shots that are then taken by a member of the golf team.

The team from 50-State Security, made up of Jayson Yao, Lianne Yao, John Yao and Anthony Hadderer came in first in the competition, with the Bevilacqua family finishing as runners-up. Sodexo Education was this year’s title sponsor, contributing $50,000 to this year’s event, with Ryder also sponsoring with $30,000 towards student scholarships for the event.

Golfers were entertained throughout the day with putting and hole-in-one contests. In addition, those playing had the opportunity to enter several raffles, with winners of all contests announced at a dinner and awards reception to close the night.

The tournament was also made possible through the more than 50 university student and staff volunteers, including both the men’s and women’s golf teams, who worked together to organize the day’s events.
