Travis Rogers, Class of 2009, received the 2008 national Physician Assistant Foundation Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship is awarded nationally on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and future goals as a PA. As the philanthropic arm of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), the Physician Assistant Foundation's mission is to foster knowledge and philanthropy that enhance the delivery of quality health care.

Rogers was among 62 students to receive the scholarship in a year when there were a record number of applications, according to Physician Assistant Foundation Assistant Director Susan Hoefling. In addition to the Foundation scholarship, Rogers, who is a student at Barry’s St. Petersburg campus, received a $2,000 scholarship award from the Barry University Physician Assistant Endowed Scholarship Fund.

"Being awarded both of these generous scholarships has helped tremendously with the financial aspect, but it has also given me further motivation to achieve success by letting me know that others believe in me and what I am trying to accomplish."

In 2005, Barry began offering its PA program at the University Partnership Center at St. Petersburg College EpiCenter. Consequently, Barry’s Dec. 15, 2007 commencement ceremony was first time that PA classes seated on both the Miami Shores and St. Petersburg campuses graduated.
