John A. Walker, Barry University’s general counsel and vice president for Human Resources, has qualified to be a member of Team USA and will represent the United States this September at the 2008 International Triathlon Union’s (ITU) Duathlon World Championships in Rimini, Italy.

Team USA was created by USA Triathlon to be a team of amateurs in triathlons and duathlons, who can best represent the United States in the ITU World Championships. The best athletes representing more than 50 countries will take part in the World Championships Sept. 26-28. Athletes qualify for a spot on Team USA by placing at qualifying races. Walker earned a spot on Team USA by finishing 5th overall at the World Qualifier on May 10 in Sarasota, Florida (Sharks Classic Duathlon).

“It is such an honor to be one of the athletes chosen to represent the United States on Team USA at the Duathlon World Championships,” said Walker. “Representing the USA is a dream come true, and the icing on the cake is the World Championship is happening in Italy this year.”

Opening ceremonies begin on Friday, Sept. 26. The men’s amateur race, which Walker will take part in, will be held Sept. 28. The race will be along the Adriatic Sea in Rimini, and will start with a 6.2 mile run, followed by a 25 mile road bike, and finish with a 3.1 mile run.
