OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- Barry University's rowing team will race in the Petite Final at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships regatta following a pair of races Saturday.

The Buccaneers varsity 8+ crew of coxswain Grace Horwitz, stroke Kristina Boncheva, Kelly Harrison, Renee Forcier, Helene Pierre, Courtney Greene, Kasia Walentynowicz, Mandy Carper and bow Samantha McKenzie placed second in the morning heat with a time of 7:01.28 to qualify for Saturday evening's semifinals.

Barry finished third in the semifinals with a time of 6:54.77, sending them to Sunday's Petite Final to race for seventh through 12th place finishes. Florida Tech finished just behind Barry in 6:55.60. Central Oklahoma was just ahead of the Bucs in 6:54.61.

Grand Valley State had the fastest semifinal time, finishing in 6:39.80. Division I George Washington posted the second quickest time, crossing the finish line in 6:42.10. Mercyhurst was third in 6:50.01.

The Bucs did not enter a varsity 4 crew in the two-day regatta.

"It looks like it will be a heck of a race tomorrow with all the boats in the Petite within three seconds of each other, timewise, from the various semifinals," Barry coach Dave Sanderson said.
