CLEARWATER, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped their first game of the season in a 2-1 decision to the 13th-ranked Flagler Saints in the Eckerd College Softball Invitational at Eddie C. Moore Park in Clearwater, Fla., on Friday night.

The Bucs (2-1) had numerous chances, but could not break through until Paula Mackin smacked a homer to left in the fourth inning.

The Saints (4-0) answered right back with two runs in the fifth on a homer by Lauren Bessent  and an RBI single by Christen Moon.

Kalyn Loverich (3-0) made the runs stand up, tossing a complete game and striking out six. Camille Czarnecki (1-1) took the loss for the Bucs, allowing two runs on four hits in 4.2 innings.

Natalia Ojeda led the Bucs going  3-for-4 from her leadoff slot and Sarah Broeseker and Mackin each had two hits. But the Bucs stranded 10 runners in the first five innings, including bases loaded with one out in the first and first and third with no outs in the third.

Barry faces Columbus State and Georgia College on Saturday.
