The College of Arts and Sciences invites the Barry community to the fifth annual STEM Research Symposium.

Every spring, STEM students and faculty are invited to showcase their research at the Annual Barry STEM Research Symposium. This research symposium is aimed at engaging the local scientific community in learning about ongoing discoveries within S.T.E.M. disciplines (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, and information technology). The event is sponsored by the departments of Biology, Information Technology, Math & Computer Science, Physical Sciences, and the scientific research society Sigma Xi.
The purpose of the Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) committee is to promote the development of a STEM learning community, in which students can thrive, succeed, and graduate in the STEM disciplines.
The community is based on a strengthened collaboration between STEM faculty, advisors, students, and departments. It is implemented through the development of proven initiatives and activities such as mentorships, academic and research support, social networking, administrative support, and partnerships with community colleges and other units of interest.
The overall objective is to attract and retain qualified students in the STEM majors, especially from underrepresented groups, and address the local and national shortage in the STEM fields.
The goals of the STEM initiatives are:
- To promote the development of community of active learners by creating an environment that allows students, faculty and staff to interact through involvement in various multidisciplinary activities and social events.
- To develop and implement strategies aimed at encouraging and facilitating the transfer of STEM students from neighboring community colleges to Barry University.
- To promote involvement in research within STEM disciplines and to support participation and presentations at regional and national scientific meetings or competitions.
