Dear Barry University Faculty, Staff, and Students,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Andrea Allen as Dean of the School of Adult and Continuing Education, effective April 1, 2013.
Dr. Allen has been a member of the Barry community since 2005. She served as Associate Dean from 2009 until her appointment as Interim Dean in January of 2012. Dr. Allen has taught psychology courses in the undergraduate program at ACE and served as the academic coordinator of the Behavior Sciences and Social Welfare Programs.
Dr. Allen earned her Ph.D. from Florida International University in psychology. She is recognized as an expert in emergency management serving as a consultant to the Disaster and Extreme Event Preparedness Center of the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, the Terrorism and Disaster Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. She guided the curriculum development efforts that resulted in the recently approved bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management which is now offered in both face-to-face and on-line formats.
