Women's Golf Vaults Into Third Place At Super Regional

LAKELAND, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers made a surge up the leader board at the 2013 NCAA Division II Super Region 2 Tournament at Lone Pine Golf Club on Monday.

The Bucs (+30) fired a tournament-best 294 to vault from sixth to third on the second day of competition. Barry is only three strokes out of first.

The Lynn Knights (+27) jumped from fourth to first after a second-round 298. Nova Southeastern (+28), the first-round leader, dropped to second after shooting 306. Rollins (+33) sits in fourth, while host Florida Southern (+38) is in fifth.

Freshman Nicky Ferre and sophomore Daniela Murray both carded even par 72 to pace the Bucs. Freshman Maria Paola Fiorio carded birdies on the last two holes to finish two strokes back at 74. Taylor Babcock (76) and Nancy Vergara (80) completed the Barry entry.

Samantha Smolen (+2) of Lynn is the individual leader. She was one of four players, including the two Bucs, to shoot par for the day. Annie Dulman (+3) of Rollins and first-round leader Kristen Sammarco (+3) are tied for second. Ferre (+4) and Linnea Johansson (+4) of Nova Southeastern are tied for fourth.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday. The top three teams advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla., at LPGA International.
