Women's Golf Opens Season Ranked No. 4

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf team is ranked No. 4 in the Golf World/Women's Golf Coaches Association preseason poll.

The Buccaneers, who finished third at last year's NCAA Division II National Championships, received 537 points and one first-place vote. Defending national champion Lynn, a Sunshine State Conference parter of Barry, is the preseason No. 1-ranked team after collecting 16 first-place votes and 615 points.

Nova Southeastern is ranked second, having earned seven first-place votes and 592 points. Despite not qualifying for the NCAA Championships, Rollins was third with 541 points and one first-place vote. Florida Southern is ranked fifth with 499 points. All of the top five schools compete in the SSC.

Barry will open the season Sept. 15-16 at the Florida Gulf Coast Eagle Invitational in Bonita Springs, Fla. The Buccaneers, who bring back individual NCAA champion Nancy Vergara, will compete in three tournaments in October to complete the fall season. 

The Bucs begin the spring season Feb. 1-2 at the Tusculum Women's Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. They will compete in two events in February, two in March and two in April. Barry will host the Lady Bucs Invitational March 17-18 at Shula's Golf Club in Miami Lakes. 

Barry will be attempting to qualify for its third straight NCAA Championships, which will be held this year in Conover, N.C., May 14-17.
