Florida Campus Compact-AmeriCorps recently awarded $8,225 to Barry University’s Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI) and Family CARE Center’s College Reach-Out Program (CROP) to host College Access and Success AmeriCorps Programs.
Seven Counseling graduate students were selected to be mentors to Miami Edison Senior High School students. The selected mentors will focus on personal and academic success through leadership, counseling, college readiness, summer college residential programs, and educational college visits.
Miami Edison Senior High School has 931 students of whom 100% are minority and 91% of students receive free reduced lunch. This grant serves low-income, minority, first generation, and educationally disadvantaged students.
The College Reach-Out Program continues to serve the local community while provide opportunities for Counseling graduate students hands-on experiences to become experts in their field.
