KANSAS CITY Kan.—The Barry Buccaneers are recalling their glory days in women’s soccer this season. The Bucs, 11-3-1 and 6-0-1 in the Sunshine State Conference, jumped into the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Top-25 Poll for the first time since 2006 this week. The Bucs are ranked 20th.

Barry was ranked in the Top-10 in the final year-end poll from 1988 through 2004, and held on to a spot in the poll through the 2005 season. The pre-season poll in 2006, when they were tabbed as 18th, was the last appareance in the national poll.

This year, after a bump in the middle of the season, the Bucs are on a roll, with a 7-0-1 mark in their last eight games, out-scoring the opponents 15-3. The Bucs have been outstanding on defense this year, allowing more than one goal only once, and posting seven shutouts. Barry ranks first in the Sunshine State Conference, second in the South Region and 30th in the nation with a 0.656 goals against average.

Keeper Becca Rogers, who has won the last three straight SSC Defensive Player of the Week awards, leads the conference in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts.

Offensively, the Bucs are led by the duo of Lauren Manna and Lavinia Nkomo. Manna leads the team with eight goals and 19 points. Nkomo has chipped six goals, including five game-winners, and added five assists.

The Bucs close the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 pm on Buccaneer Field against the Eckerd Tritons. The Bucs will honor the 2013 senior class prior to the game.
