About the Lecture

Mathias Pierre will explore entrepreneurship in an environment of scarce resources, deep-seated social perceptions, and an economic model that he believes is not based on growth and wealth creation, but leads to a predatory distribution of wealth that accentuates the divide between rich and poor.

About the Speaker

Mathias Pierre is president of GaMa Group, a multi-million dollar information technology firm in Haiti. GaMa Group encompasses four entities: GaMa Consulting S.A., GaMa Enterprises, the nonprofit Fondation Etre Ayisyen, and KayTek Immobilies S.A. KayTek mainly focuses on developing the Haitian construction sector by training Haitian engineers, promoting entrepreneurship, and addressing Haiti’s immediate need for housing. KayTek’s business plan has been recognized and funded by the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, which invested $1.1 million in the project.

Pierre graduated from the State University of Haiti, where he majored in electrical engineering. He is president of the Haitian Association of Information Technology. Pierre was secretary of the board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Haiti and vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the West. He is the author of The Power of a Dream: One Man’s Determination to Pursue His Ideals, which has been printed in both English and French and has been featured on National Public Radio.
