Women's Basketball Rides 2nd-half Defense To SSC Road Win

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers (9-5, 2-3 SSC) pulled out a 69-55 road win over the Eckerd Tritons in the McArthur Center on Saturday in Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball action.

The Bucs erased a nine-point half-time deficit by holding the short-handed Tritons to 16.7 percent shooting in the second period. Barry also dominated the boards in the second half, grabbing 30 of the 38 missed shots.

The Bucs opened the second period with a 14-4 run, taking the lead for good, 40-39, on a pair of free throws by Kaylia Richardson with 11:57 to play.

Tyler Hardy led the Bucs again with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Richardson came off the bench to add 16 points and seven boards, while Nyjah Porcher chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds. Kayla Bowlin led the Tritons (7-7, 1-4 SSC) with 16 points, half of them coming at the line. Rana Thomas added 12 and Liga Vente had 10 points.

The Bucs come back home on Wednesday, Jan. 22 to face the Lynn  Knights.
