Homecoming Event Descriptions

Monday

‘Hollywood Windows of Fame’ Window Decorating| 1PM – 5PM | Landon Courtyard

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups will be able to register and reserve a window to decorate facing the Landon Courtyard. This is an opportunity for Clubs and Organizations to show their support for Homecoming while promoting their presence on campus and earn points toward the Homecoming Cup.  A panel of Judges will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Gamers’ Ball | 5PM – 9PM | Landon Atrium/Events Room/Courtyard

Back by popular demand, Gamers Ball 2014 is coming back to Barry University’s Homecoming Week. This year get the chance to test your gaming skills on our famous gigantic four sided game cube station! ‘Free play’ stations will be available for use.  Get psyched up because we aren’t stopping there! Engage in full blow laser tag obstacle course action and fight off your foes (fellow students) in the Landon Court yard. Guess what else is happening this year… Boomslam!!! We have a full blown table tennis and billiard table tournament.  Storm troopers will be trooping around for quick picture opportunities. P.S. Don’t forget to use the force… Game On!

Bonfire | 9PM – 11PM | Dominican Lawn

Hang out around the Bonfire with the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Team.  Roast marshmallows to create mouth watering Smores but most of all let’s pre-celebrate the defeat of Rollins and Nova Southeastern University by our Men and Women’s Basketball Teams.

 

Tuesday

‘Castaway’ Boat Races | 3PM – 5PM | Pentafort Pool

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups can test their ship making skills. Each registered team will be given a list of approved building materials and starting supplies a week prior to the race. They will need to build a sea worthy vessel that will make it the length of the pool. Each team will be timed and the top three times will be awarded additional points toward the Homecoming Cup.

 

Barry Beauties “Miss Fashionista” |8PM – 10PM | Landon Main Stage

In celebrating the history of Barry University and the fact that we were once an ‘ALL GIRLS’ school, CAB hosts a comedic fashion show where males dress up in female attire and model to their hearts content.

 

Wednesday

‘Blades of Glory’ Balloon Shaving Competition | 3PM – 5PM | Intramural Fields

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups will only have to select one team member for this competition but they better be careful. The individual must remove all the shaving cream off a balloon without popping. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd fastest times will be win bonus Homecoming Cup points

SGA Powder Puff | 3PM – 5PM | Intramural Fields

Traditionally a Student Government Association (SGA) sponsored event, Student groups are formed where the roles are reversed and the men in each group become the cheerleaders, while the women participate in "flag football". Last year the event took place in the Campus Mall area and student groups such as P.R.I.D.E and American Sign Language Association were involved.

Game Day

Pregame and get amped up before our Men and Women’s Basketball teams take on PBA. The games begin at 5:30pm.  Participate in a basketball Shoot out for prizes and enjoy some fun activities such as a trampoline dunking brought to you by Inferno Challenge.  During half time see performances from the Heat Girls and also see who get’s crowned Homecoming King and Queen.

 

 

Thursday

‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ Relay Race | 3PM – 5PM | Campus Mall

Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups will have to navigate their way through multiple legs of this relay race which include obstacles, challenges and partner tasks. The course will include three legged race, egg carry, sack race and much more.  This event will also be timed and the teams with the best times will earn more points toward the Homecoming Cup.

 

‘Behind The Scenes’ Fashion Show | 8PM – 10PM | Broad Auditorium

Behind the Scenes is more than fashion show…. It is a Motion Picture Extravaganza!  Get ready to not only view the show but also be cast into the experience. New collections from vendors and designers including BID, Faye’s Closet, Men’s Wearhouse, Swim n Sport, and I AM Randy.  Special performances by Tru Lyrical, and guess performances you don’t want to miss.  Make sure you come to the show dressed to impress in your red carpet attire… Special prizes and give- a- ways will be given to the selected trendsetters in the audience.   Scene one will begin promptly at 8:00pm on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Broad Auditorium.

 

Friday

‘Homecoming Paparazzi’ Photo Scavenger Hunt | All Day |

In addition to the daily scheduled scavenger hunt photos, Friday is where Clubs, Organizations and Student Groups can make up missed shots with bonus photos. If you are lucky to snap a shot with Bucky, a homecoming court member, someone dressed up in the theme of the day or at the Star Gala; you can rack up more Homecoming Cup Points

 

Festival of Nations | 2PM – 6PM | Landon Main Stage

Festival of Nations is one of Barry University’s largest cultural event.  It has been part of Barry’s tradition held each year. The festival focuses on the traditions of celebrating and exploring the cultural diversity represented on campus.  The richness and diversity of our international culture on campus will be displayed through student-sponsored country booths, food, music and dance, educational workshop, games, performances, and other exciting activities.  Festival of Nations offers the opportunity to develop an appreciation of cultures.  It provides an interactive experience about the different cultures that make up our university and our surrounding community. We have international students from over 80 different countries which will be representing their culture at the festival. The festival is free and open to everyone.  Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community are all welcome to attend.

 

Expected performances include:

  • Student’s performances from: Caribbean Student Association, Dominican Republic, and Haiti.

 

  • Professional performances include:  Lion Dancers, Mariachi Band, Steel Pan Players from Steel Away, and much more.

 

  • In addition to this we will also have a cultural poem presentation by Gabrielle Singleton and Dance Competition with Greta Moncayo.

 

  • The 18th annual Festival of Nations will take place on Friday, February 21st, 2014

 

  • International Youth Workshop for Gratigny Elementary 5th graders

‘A Night in Hollywood’ Homecoming Dance | 9PM – 1AM | Andreas 111 & 112

Join us at the 2nd Annual Homecoming Ball.  Be Red-Carpet-Ready and join us for “A Night in Hollywood”.  Enjoy an evening of socializing and dancing with a variety of music and special entertainment surprises!!!  Watch the stars come out at night as we celebrate the classics during the cocktail hour from 9:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.  There will be hors d’oeuvres and a variety of refreshments including a midnight toast!  Dress to impress as this event is semi-formal.  There will be a $10.00 ticket charge and tickets may be purchased at the Center for Student Involvement in Landon 202.

Saturday

‘Any Given Saturday’ Tailgate | 12PM – 4PM | Landon Courtyard

After a long hard week of competitions and Homecoming festivities we invite all Clubs, Organizations and Students groups to register for a tent at the tailgate for the basketball games on Saturday. Join fellow students and alumni where there will be tailgate games, food and refreshments. Not to mention, the winner of the Homecoming Cup will be Announce at the tail gate.
