LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Barry University's No. 3-ranked women's tennis team beat host UC San Diego, 9-0, in the first of three matches in Southern California on this West Coast Spring Break trip.

The Buccaneers improved to 10-0. UC San Diego fell to 6-8.

Barry was tested in only two matches. The Bucs swept doubles play in convincing fashion. Only one singles match was decided in a super tiebreaker.

Barry's No. 1-ranked doubles team of Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken beat Paula Cho and Kyra Scott, 8-3, at No. 1. Anaeve Pain and Kimmy Twelker were 8-1 winners over Nava Nowamooz and Shannon Theisen at No. 2. Thirteenth-ranked Elisabeth Abanda and Karina Goia rolled over Tara Vanooteghem and Laura Wilke, 8-1, at No. 3.

Onila, ranked No. 8 in the country, needed a second set tiebreaker to beat 32nd-ranked Scott, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6), at the top singles flight. Blanka Szavay won her battle at No. 4 with Vanooteghemm, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6, in the best match of the day.
