Jennie Ricketts-Duncan named recipient of Cecile Roussell, PhD Fellowship

Barry University is pleased to announce that Jennie Ricketts-Duncan, Ph.D., has been named the recipient of the 2014 Cecile Roussell, PhD Fellowship for Faculty Development. Ricketts-Duncan is an assistant professor of reading in Barry’s Adrian Dominican School of Education.

Barry’s Cecile Roussell, PhD Fellowship is awarded annually to one full-time faculty member to finance research, special projects, materials for enhancing teaching, attendance at seminars, and emphasizes the impact of the projects on the academic experience of Barry students.

Ricketts-Duncan’s project is a children’s literature mobile library that will be used to demonstrate and promote reading aloud and literature circles as two strategies to enhance reading at the K-3 levels. The mobile library allows Barry students to utilize the books during course work that requires read aloud and literature circle activities. In addition, Barry ADSOE students who are current teachers may borrow the books to extend the strategies in their own classroom practice.

Ricketts-Duncan will be awarded $1500 for the project.
