Men's Soccer Ties Embry-Riddle, 2-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Barry University men’s soccer team tied Embry-Riddle, 2-2, Saturday night.

Barry’s Connor Randel scored at the 47:01 mark, with an assist from Manuel Perez, tying the game at 1-1. That was the answer to Embry-Riddle’s goal in the first minute when Moriba Ballah scored on a setup from Lewis Blackmore.

Midfielder Nico Gercke put the Bucs (2-1-1) ahead 2-1 at the 52:12 mark when he banged in a header off a corner kick by Ryan King. It was Gercke’s second goal of the season.

Embry-Riddle’s Veit Couturier scored with nine seconds remaining in regulation to extend the game into overtime.

The Buccaneers outshot the Eagles 10-6 in the first half. King’s shot a little over five minutes into the game was stopped by Eagles goalkeeper Nils Carlson. Barry’s Rory Kay had a shot on goal saved by Carlson 8:10 later.

Bucs goalkeeper Robby Shearer kept Barry in front when he stopped a penalty shot in the 79th minute by Couturier.

The Buccaneers outshot the Eagles 10-7 in the second half.

Gercke’s penalty kick in the first overtime was saved by Carlson to keep the game tied at 2-2.

Shearer finished with seven saves, playing the entire game in net. Carlson had seven saves in 110 minutes as well.

Barry placed nine of its 25 shots on goal. The Eagles (0-0-2) directed 10 of their 16 shots on net.

The Bucs return home for a 4:30 p.m. Wednesday game against Florida Tech.
