DELAND, Fla. – Barry University’s rowing crew’s boats won two races and finished second and fourth in the three events the Buccaneers competed in Saturday at the Stetson Fall Rowing Rendezvous.

Sunday, Barry’s Collegiate 4+ boat of coxswain Angela Dasch, Paula Klak, Mandy Carper, Anais Foppoli and Rosie Boncheva won with a time of 20:27. The Bucs crew of cox Stephanie Dinkel, Beth Desmond, Paola Girotto, Ellie Hartman and Sara Rus Alba finished second in the event in 20:35.

It was a dominating performance by the Buccaneers, who took the top two spots in the 16-boat event, with their second boat besting third place Jacksonville by 16 seconds.

In the Collegiate 8+ race, Barry’s crew of Dasch, Jelena Momirov, Carper, Klak, Girotto, Desmond, Boncheva, Hartman and Alba won with a time of 18:13. That was 24 seconds better than second place Jacksonville in the 12-boat race.

"I am very proud of our success today," Bucs coach Boban Rankovic said. "Our varsity and novice squad had (a) great showing in all our events. Also our staff did a great job coaching and helping and supporting our girls in every way. Unfortunately our novice 8+ didn't finish their race due to a crash at the beginning of the race. Now, as we finish fall racing, we are setting our sights on the spring season."

In the Collegiate Novice event, Barry’s boat of Catalina Perez, Cierra Salzano, Zenobia Philipe, Veronica Biederman and Stephanie Rodriguez finished fourth in 22:45. Jacksonville was first in 21:04 in the seven-boat race.

Sunday, the Bucs crew of Dasch, Momirov, Carper, Klak, Girotto, Desmond, Boncheva, Hartman and Alba beat Stetson in the Women's Open 8+ with a time of 1:17.38. The Hatters finished in 1:29.36. It was difference of 11:58.

Bary's Open 4+ of Dinkel, Stefanie Sciolaro, Sam McKenzie, Luna Ugrenovic and Foppoli posted a time of 1:27.59 as the only entrant in the race.

That completes the fall season for the Buccaneers, who will return to the water in the spring.
