School of Social Work awarded $21,600 by Miami-Dade County in support of the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Grant

The Barry University School of Social Work, in partnership with Miami-Dade County, is pleased to offer Field Education placement opportunities under the Neighborhood Technical Assistance (NTA) Grant. The NTA Grant offers a stipend in the amount of $2,000.00 for two semesters to 12 MSW Students at the Miami Shores campus who are interested in community social work.

Full-time MSW students entering their Concentration/Advanced Standing Field Placement in the spring 2015 as well as newly admitted Full-time spring 2015 MSW Foundation-Year students are invited to submit an application to the NTA Grant program. Grant criteria are listed below:

Grant Selection Criteria:

  • Students that are eligible to apply for this grant if they meet the following criteria:
    • Students must be enrolled FULL-TIME and be enrolled in one of the following cohorts:
      • Entering MSW Concentration Year in the Spring of 2015
      • Are a newly admitted MSW Advanced Standing student beginning in Spring 2015 
      • Are a newly admitted MSW Foundation Year Student beginning in Spring 2015
  • Interest in Community Social Work Practice (500 word essay describing this interest)
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice
  • Letter of Recommendation
    • Continuing students must submit a Letter of Recommendation from either their Academic Advisor, MSW Program Director, or previous Field Educator)
    • Newly admitted students must submit one professional reference (professor, previous employer, supervisor, etc.)

Grant Maintenance Criteria:

  • Complete a minimum of 420 Field hours over the course of two (2) consecutive semesters, Spring and Summer
  • Submit to a Background Screening
  • Agree to complete all Field Education course assignments
  • Agree to participate in an NTA –Grant Community  Research Project

The NTA represents a collaborative effort between Miami-Dade County and the Barry University School of Social Work. The NTA Grant is intended to address the needs of various communities throughout Miami-Dade County with the sole purpose of strengthening communities. As a service provider, Barry School of Social Work is committed to assisting the county’s initiative through its Field Education, Technical Assistance and Capacity Building opportunities.
