KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Barry University men’s basketball team is ranked No. 24 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches poll released Tuesday. The Buccaneers (2-0) received 53 points in the first regular season poll this year.

West Liberty (W. Va.) is No. 1 in the country, followed by Southern Connecticut State and Metropolitan State (Colo.). Drury (Mo.) and Bellarmine (Ky.) occupy the remaining two spots in the top five. Barry’s Sunshine State Conference brethren Florida Southern is ranked No. 6. West Liberty received 12 of the 16 first-place votes. Metro State earned three.

Cal Baptist, which was ranked No. 24 in the preseason poll, shot up 13 spots to No. 11, grabbing the final first-place vote.

Barry was ranked for one week in the NABC Top 25 last year on Dec. 31, 2013 after opening the season with a 9-0 start, which included a win over No. 13 Livingstone (N.C.) in the Lynn Holiday Classic before the Christmas break.

Barry hosts Florida Memorial at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Health & Sports Center. The Buccaneers and mascot Bucky will be filmed for a reality show episode expected to air on the British Broadcasting Channel in the spring.
