A Message from the President

A Message from the President

This morning there was a fire in a student room on the second floor of Browne Hall, one of the student residence halls on the east side of the campus closest to NE Second Avenue and NE 111th Street.  No students or staff were harmed or sickened by fire or smoke inhalation. All resident students who live in Browne were evacuated immediately and accounted for very quickly.

We were well-served by fire fighters and paramedics from Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue. The student room where the fire started sustained the most damage; the room next door has smoke damage.  The resident students who evacuated the hall were well cared for by Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue and a variety of staff members.  Members of the ECA and the Student Affairs Division were on the scene immediately.

I am proud of and thankful of staff members in Housing and Residence Life, Facilities, Public Safety, and Communications who effectively orchestrated actions and cooperated with the Miami Shores Police officers and the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue fire fighters.

We are very grateful that no one was hurt or sickened by smoke inhalation, and are appreciative of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for their quick response.

Sister Linda
